As human beings, we all have an inner voice that serves as our guide. Unlike our emotions, feelings, judgments, and opinions, our inner voice is always accurate when it comes to the actions we take or the decisions we make. However, the question is, do we trust and heed our inner voice or override it with arrogance, ego, immaturity, ignorance or self-absorption?
We may have made decisions or taken actions that were contrary to the wisdom we felt coming from somewhere inside us – our soul, spirit, or heart. We cannot always trust our minds as they are often filled with prejudice, fear, inappropriate knowledge, or experiences. One thing I have learned is to trust the guidance and messages from within me and not my mind. I have made bad decisions and taken wrong actions in the past when I believed that I knew best.
Listen to your Inner Voice
So, where does this inner guidance come from? The answer depends on who you ask. If you are a spiritual person, it comes from your spirit, which will guide you if you let it. If you are not a spiritual person, it comes from what you believe from previous experience. Regardless of the source, evidence has shown over the years that the single goal of the spirit within you is for your happiness, joy, and peace.
Your inner voice seeks to guide you, but it does not control you. You have free will to act in any way you want for or against it. However, your mind can refuse to accept this wisdom and act against it, but there will always be consequences. The spirit evidently has access to your past and your future as it comes from God. It only wants you to make decisions or take actions consistent with your future best interests.
Listening to your inner voice requires being vigilant every moment of every day to ensure you do not repeat earlier behaviors that went against your inner guidance. Letting your inner voice guide you takes many forms, such as intuition, a gentle inner nudging, or even hunches. It is not about luck or good fortune, but inner wisdom that we can pay attention to or ignore.
The Source of Gut Feeling
Where does this inner guidance come from? Well, it depends on who you ask. If you are a spiritual person it comes from your spirit which will guide you if you will let it. If you are not a spiritual person it comes from what you believe from previous experience.
I am not going to argue which approach is right or accurate. The answer comes from your current circumstances. If life is working for you (and this depends on how you choose to define working) I’ll bet in many ways you have heeded this inner guidance in the past. When life isn’t working, I’ll wager that you have ignored or overridden this counsel.
If your inner voice comes from your spirit, evidence has shown over the years by many reliable sources that the single goal of the spirit within you is for your happiness, joy, and peace. Accepting this to be true, I’m neither validating it or denying it. It is with the understanding that the spirit doesn’t want you to make mistakes. Given the long-term impact of actions and decisions, your inner voice seeks to guide you. It doesn’t control you but guides you. Your mind can refuse to accept this wisdom and act against it but there will always be consequences.
Let Your Inner Voice Guide You
The source of our inner voice can vary depending on our beliefs. For spiritual individuals, it may come from the spirit, which seeks our happiness, joy, and peace. Regardless of the source, the inner voice seeks to guide us towards decisions and actions that are consistent with our best interests, both now and in the future.
The spirit evidently has access to your past and your future as it comes from God. This is evidenced in numerous illustrations throughout scripture. It only wants you to make decisions or take actions consistent with your future best interests. However, you do have free will to act in any way you want for or against it.
I have witnessed numerous occasions in discussions with friends and family over the years where they did one thing when they knew deep inside they should be doing something different. Sometimes they would do the total opposite and they, therefore, inherited outcomes they could have avoided.
It’s the Source of Wisdom
Does the spirit know the future? I don’t know – but I do have an opinion that I will not share here but in a separate conversation if any of you are interested.
The inner voice can take many forms – as intuition, a gentle inner nudging that you feel but can’t identify the source. And sometimes yes, even hunches. I’m not talking about luck or good fortune just inner wisdom that we can pay attention to or ignore it.
While we have free will to act in any way we choose, ignoring our inner voice can result in negative consequences. It’s crucial to pay attention to the intuition, nudges, and hunches that arise within us, as they often hold valuable wisdom. Trusting our inner voice is not always easy, but it can lead us towards a more fulfilling and authentic life.
